I need added protein and they provide it.The product was good but most of the cans were crushed, not breached but smashed enough to make them hard to open.I purchased water and oil, both very tasty but the water sardines are our favoriteSardines in Mustard sauce is exactly as expected, delicious and fresh. Expiration date on all cans received is marked Sept 2024. Beach Cliff is the brand I always bought in grocery stores. However, they have not been available for several months now. So, I purchased online through Amazon. Glad I did and will reorder when I need to replenish my supply.Delicious.I'm not to sure what country these fish are canned in but these are much better quality than any of the Chinese variety of sardines. The quality of these Beach Cliff sardines is very consistent, never had a bad batch. The fish are very small, one reviewer stated these are not true sardines. The fish are small but they always do a good job of filling up the tin with a good proportion of fish. Beach Cliff sardines and the Beach Cliff herring with sliced green chilies are the canned fish I usually buy most. I try to avoid any canned fish from China, never had any luck with Chinese sardines in terms of quality.These sardines are a good value for the money. The sauce is better than oil and mustard, but it is hot. I cannot just eat them naked out of the can. I put them in a sandwich with mayo or pesto sauce. Then I can tolerate the heat. Everyone's sensitivity to spicy heat is different so for some the heat is easy to handle. But, I like the flavor and moderated heat when combined with something else. I would buy again.I like the sauce/flavor of the Beach Cliff Louisiana hot sauce variety.I DON'T like the large mushy sardines.I'm not sure how you grade a sardine personally, but I know number per can has a lotto do with it.So if you get 3 or 4 big shiners per can, mehh.Prob low level sardines hence the mushy, drippy oozy smeary texture.Flavor as I said is just fine, it's just the end use or presentation will probably be limited.All said and done, this is my favorite "hot" variety.Although they really aren't that hot, I just like the flavor of the sauce.They were worth the 1.38 price per can delivered, but not a single penny more.Sardines are expensive.A 5oz can of tuna is 85c? or so. 3.5oz of sardines is anywhere from 1.5-3 a can now.Even though I like the flavor, I'll not pay that for this fish paste.
